Hot Stuff: Yucca Valley

Creativity is blooming in Yucca Valley. Every time I visit, a new crop of artists are setting up shop. Pioneers like Janelle Pietrzak from All Roads paved the way. A decade ago, she dreamt up decorative art and functional design objects that have since wooed the world over. Today, she anchors the Mojave Flea Trading Post in Yucca Valley, which is brimming with artisan and vintage finds. Just in time for holiday shopping, we present the High Desert list of covetable treasures with the design lover in mind.

Inside the Mojave Flea— the second location after Palm Springs—the treasure hunt heats up with my friend Drew Brant as the arbiter of Yucca Valley style. He leads the way through 35+ vendors. There’s RTH, Life & Times, Bunny and Wolf, Numi Olive jewelry and Calikesh, uniting a Moroccan-SoCal aesthetic.

Expanding from a tiny frontier town, Yucca Valley remains this enduring place to uncover strange and beautiful things. To soak up the creativity on display.

Don’t miss ZZIEE Ceramics, shaping the next-gen pottery scene with classes and dreamy one-of-a-kind pieces. Inside the studio, owner and artist Elizabeth Eisenstein is shapeshifting vases and sculptural objects in addition to tableware and functional pottery.
